Celebrate Kayven Event Recap & Summer Updates!

As we look ahead to the 4th of July holiday, Steven and I have been reflecting on how much Kayven loved this time of year. Of course, he was all about the fireworks — the louder, the better! But it wasn’t just the firecrackers. It was the whole summer vibe: long days at the pool, backyard grilling, parades, staying up late playing outside with friends, and the excitement of camps and adventures…and ofcourse, smores!

Those memories reminded us it was time to update you all on what Kayven’s Helping Hands has been up to — and how your support continues to carry his joyful spirit forward.

What a day! On May 23rd, we gathered with our amazing community to honor the spirit of adventure, kindness, and curiosity that defined Kayven’s life. Our Celebrate Kayven event was filled with laughter, connection, activities, and a shared mission to make a difference — and together, we raised $4,600 of our $5,000 goal!

We are overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who came out, donated, volunteered, or just had fun. Your support is helping us bring books, activities, and resources to kids across Derby, Wichita, and surrounding communities.

So far this summer, we’ve given away nearly 200 books thanks to the Celebrate Kayven event, our booth at the Party Rockerz ICT Family Picnic, the local STEMKamp, and a special donation to kids in Grinnell, Kansas, following the devastating tornado in May. These books are going into the hands of children who need them most.

We’ve also been proud to support other enriching youth opportunities this year, including Kids Ballet, the Fishing Derby, and the Free Spirits Art Show — all through the Derby Recreation Center.   We are also proud sponsors of the first all-female scout troop here in Derby and a blackbelt sponsor through Championship Marshal Arts.  We will also be hosting a station at the Level Up Life Skills & Community Resource event on July 12th.

We're also excited to share that several Little Free Libraries are in the works! While we're still working through some logistics, installations are coming soon — stay tuned for announcements and photos.

If you signed up for the Epilepsy Foundation's Seizure First Aid & Recognition Training, mark your calendars for 2pm on Saturday, July 27th at the Derby Library. Spots are limited, please email CelebrateKayven@gmail.com to sign up.  This class is free and open to the community.

And looking ahead — we’re proud to partner with the Epilepsy Foundation of Kansas and Missouri to help organize their upcoming Wichita-area fundraiser this October. We’re honored to be part of raising awareness and support for families facing epilepsy.

Thank you again for celebrating Kayven’s legacy with us. Your support is helping us turn grief into purpose — and making adventures possible for all.

Wishing you a joyful and safe 4th of July!

With much love,

-Kacey and Steven
